Getting Your Textbooks

What are my options for getting my textbooks?

You have two options for getting textbooks. They are:

1) Textbook Butler: This is the easiest, and most affordable, option for getting your textbooks. If you choose to use this free service, we will receive your course information from your school and use that information to send you every textbook you need, charged directly to your student account. See the FAQ section below to learn more about this program.

2) Online: Use your course schedule to look up your textbooks on this website. Add the books you want to your cart and check out. You can pick up the books at your campus store or have them shipped to you. Payments are handled via credit card.

Rental Textbooks

Does the Campus Store rent books?

Absolutely! Renting is the cheapest way to get your textbooks. You can also still purchase new or used books.

Can I write or highlight in my rented textbook?

Definitely. We want you to treat the book like it’s your own. Do be courteous, however, and remember that someone will be using that book after you, so don’t go overboard and ruin the experience for the next renter.

Textbook Butler

What is Textbook Butler

Simply, it’s the easiest way to get your textbooks. We get your course enrollment information directly from your school and use it to send you all of your textbooks automatically. The books are delivered straight to your campus and we charge your student account. Best of all, the Textbook Butler service is provided at no extra charge over the cost of your books.

Am I signed up for Textbook Butler automatically?

At your school, all students are automatically signed up for Textbook Butler when they start their program. Rent is chosen as your default preference. You will stay opted in for future terms unless you choose to opt out. Current students are opted‐out by default. Any student can opt out or return unneeded books, but we can’t guarantee we will have books for students that are opted out.

What kind of options do I have for textbook type? Will I always get my preference?

You have four preferences to choose from in the Textbook Butler program:

1) Rent: This is the lowest cost option. Rental course materials will be provided whenever possible. Some resources are only available for purchase and will be substituted as necessary.

2) Purchase Used: This is the middle cost option. Used course materials will be provided for purchase whenever available. Some titles are only available new and will be substituted as necessary.

3) Purchase New: This is a high cost option. New course materials will be provided for purchase whenever available. Occasionally a title may only be available used and will be substituted as necessary.

4) Opt Out: No course materials will be provided. By opting out, you are responsible to source all of your course materials, which may or may not be available from your Campus Store.

What if I want to buy instead of rent?

You can choose Purchase Used or Purchase New as your Textbook Butler preference. You can also choose Rent and then opt to purchase specific books later in the semester after you’ve decided which ones you want to keep. In this case, you are charged the rental price up front and the remainder of the price later on if you decide to purchase.

How can I view and change my Textbook Butler status and preference?

You can view or change your preference via the My Account page on this website.

What if I add or drop a class?

If you add a class, we will automatically be notified and will deliver your new book. If you drop a class, return that book to the Campus Store with proof that you dropped the class. We will then credit your student account. Please do this within 21 days of the start of the course.

What if I already own a book?

You can return any book for any reason during the first week of class without penalty. After that, a 20% restocking fee will be assessed to books returned, unless you have dropped the course.

What if I’m enrolled in a Global (online) class? Do I get books for those courses too?

You do. Those orders are processed separately, and will arrive in your campus mailbox.

Does Textbook Butler operate during the summer?

It does not. Even if you’re opted in to the program during fall and spring semesters, you will need to specifically purchase your books from this website or the Campus Store for any summer courses.

I don’t want to use Textbook Butler. Can I opt‐out?

We think that Textbook Butler is your most convenient and, often, most affordable choice for getting your textbooks. We understand, however, that not all students wish to take part. If you want to opt‐out, visit the My Account page on this website. Please keep in mind that if you opt‐out, you are responsible for finding all of your books.

Online Orders

What are my shipping options for online orders?

You can see your shipping options, and the cost of each, at checkout. Generally, you will have three options: pick up in store, standard shipping, or expedited shipping.

Can I use my student account to pay for books online?

Due to student privacy regulations, we are unable to provide for student account payment online at this time.

How can I track my order?

Once you have placed an order through the website, login to your account to view your order’s current status and tracking number (if applicable).

How long will it take to get my books?

The amount of time it takes to get your books depends on the shipping speed you choose. Generally, orders are processed within 1‐2 business days after you place them.

Returning Your Rentals

How do I return my rental books?

The simplest way is to take your book into your Campus Store. It’s a quick and simple process. Alternatively, you can ship your books back to us for free. Just log in to your online account, find the books you’d like to return, and click “Return.” The system will walk you through the process.

What if I need to keep my book longer than the rental period?

That’s no problem. You can pay to extend your rental period by either visiting your campus store or by logging in to your online account, finding the book you want to extend, and clicking “Extend.”

How do I know when my rentals are due?

Generally, rentals are due either on the last day of the semester or within the first few days thereafter. To find the exact date, either visit the Campus Store or log in to your online account, where you can view your outstanding rentals as well as the date they are due.

What happens if I miss the rental return deadline?

If you miss the deadline, your student account or credit card will be charged for the difference between the rental price and the purchase price. For instance, if you paid $25 to rent the book and the purchase price is $100, you will be charged $75. You can return a billed rental within 30 days of the billing date for a refund, minus a 20% restocking fee.

I rented my book, but now I want to keep it. Can I do that?

Certainly. Just keep your book beyond the return deadline, and we’ll automatically charge you for the difference between the rental price and the purchase price. For instance, if you paid $25 to rent the book and the purchase price is $100, you will be charged $75. You can find this buyout price by logging in to your online account.

Will I always get my textbook type preference (i.e. rent, buy used, buy new) in Textbook Butler?

Most of the time, but not always.  We start by trying to fill your requirements according to the preference you select and we usually can. Sometimes, however, there may not be a used copy of a book available and certain types of books cannot be rented—workbooks or textbooks with access codes, for example.

If I choose to rent, can I write or highlight in my rented textbook? Will my book have the CD or Access Code?

Absolutely.  We want you to treat the book like it’s your own.  Just be respectful and please don’t destroy the learning experience for the next renter. Sorry, supplements can’t be guaranteed. You may be the 2nd or 3rd person renting this book, and supplements could be used up. Please check with your professor to see if the supplement is actually necessary. If it is, oftentimes, you can purchase the supplement separately.

You can keep any rental book you want, no problem! Just keep the book and Tree of Life will bill your student account the difference between the rental price and the purchase price. For instance, if you paid $15 to rent the book and the purchase price is $50, you will be charged $35.

If you miss the rental deadline, you will be charged the difference between the rental price and the purchase price.  Billed rentals can be returned within 30 days of the billed date for a refund minus a 20% restocking fee.  After 30 days we will no longer accept a return but encourage you to use our buyback program.
